As long as there are automobiles, there will be a great need for auto parts retailers. From car enthusiasts to everyday car owners, most people will need to purchase a new part for their vehicle at some point or another. However, if you own or market a business that sells auto parts, you know that you aren’t the only option for consumers looking to make a purchase.

There are numerous ways to reach and earn the business of new customers. But considering that the majority of today’s consumers use search engines to find what they need, one of the best ways is search engine optimization, or SEO. By improving your rankings in search engine results pages, you improve your business’s chance of being found before your competitors.

SEO can be confusing to site owners who aren’t fully familiar with it, but it’s essential for building a strong presence online. If you’re ready to get started earning leads and increasing sales with SEO, call 888-601-5359 or contact us online today!

Or if you’re still looking for some additional information about how to do SEO effectively, here are a few SEO tips for auto parts retailers.

Optimize each page

This may sound obvious, since including relevant and useful keywords is essentially the basis of SEO. However, it’s important to go through all of your pages and make sure that each one is correctly optimized.

Have you done keyword research? Used keywords in your copy without stuffing? And included them in your title, header, and alt tags? If the answer to any of those questions is “no,” you have some work to do.

Many auto parts retailers choose to focus only on a handful of pages and think that’s enough to bring in search traffic. This isn’t an effective strategy, especially if you have hundreds of product pages. By optimizing the copy, headers, and titles of individual pages, it’s possible to rank much higher in search engine results.

Create strong content

You may know that Google considers content quality, not just quantity. This means your content has to be written with human readers in mind—not robotic web crawlers. Strong content is content that makes sense to the visitor and isn’t stuffed with keywords. It should provide value, and be genuinely interesting for site visitors to read.

If you don’t know where to start, a blog is a great way to add strong site content on a regular basis. As each new blog post is added, your number of web pages builds. Plus, well-written posts can generate organic traffic and social shares, which are also great indicators for SEO purposes.

As you continue to add content to your site, keep in mind that you should always avoid creating duplicate content. Having the same copy on multiple pages is a big red flag for search engines, and if you’ve ever used copy and paste to add content to new pages, you could be at risk for having your rankings damaged.

Build organic links

Organic links are those that occur naturally. For instance, let’s say that you offer a product for a great price. Someone sees that product (and that price!) and makes a mention of it on their website or blog. The link back to your site signals to search engines that it’s a quality page, and can help your site rank better.

The more links you have from quality sites, the better—the operative word being “quality.” Links from low-quality, disreputable sites can actually harm your chances of ranking well, and if you notice any in your backlink analysis, it’s best to take steps as soon as possible to have them removed.

It’s also important to remember that you should only ever build links by creating quality content and letting others link to it. Although it’s okay to reach out to other site owners on occasion if you have content you truly think their readers would find useful, never try to buy links. Offering money in exchange for links to your site is considered “black hat,” and can result in a Google penalty.

Fix any link issues

Now that we’ve discussed the links that point to your site, it’s time to focus on the ones within your site that connect individual pages together. Check to make sure that they all work, and fix any that are broken.

It’s frustrating for both visitors and search engine crawlers when they come to a webpage and find broken links. Visitors may go elsewhere, and crawlers can simply not index your pages. In the end, your search engine results will start to drop, just because your pages aren’t linked correctly.

Broken links are relatively easy to fix—you just have to find them first. If you have a small auto parts retailer website, you can probably go through each webpage relatively quickly and ensure that your links are correctly working. If you have a larger website, it can take quite a few hours—but it will be entirely worth it if you find and repair even one or two broken links.

Check your site’s load times

If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, you could be losing potential customers left and right. Internet users tend to be an impatient bunch, and because they know that there are thousands of other, faster-loading options, they’re likely to leave your site and check out another.

If too many visitors click the “back” button before your page loads, your bounce rate could skyrocket—which will cause your page rankings to fall. One of the biggest culprits of slow page load times is images, so if your images are slowing down your site, try either resizing or removing the ones that are too large.

Use social media

Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are used by millions of people, so make sure your auto parts retailer is using them, too. And if you’re not sure what to post or tweet, almost anything goes! Take pictures of happy clients, show off new products, talk about community service—anything that adds a little personality and shows your business in a positive light.

At the same time, if someone posts on your page or comments on a photo, do your best to respond in a timely manner. Engaging with followers on social media can be a great way to build customer relationships, which are a great asset in any industry.
