Located about 30 minutes outside of Harrisburg, Carlisle is a historical town with lots of charm. And considering that it’s been ranked the 16th best small town in the U.S., it’s no wonder many Harrisburg commuters are willing to make the drive.
Carlisle is perfect for those who love small-town charm, and also has a bit of a college town feel thanks to Dickinson College and the Penn State Dickinson School of Law. It’s also home to the U.S. Army War College and the historic Carlisle Barracks.
Although Carlisle is popular among families, there is not as much in the way of nightlife as Harrisburg, and the area is more suited for those who don’t want to live in a busy city.
