Allison Hill

Just east of downtown, Allison Hill is primarily residential and one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city.

Pros

The biggest draw of this neighborhood is Reservoir Park, which is the largest public park in Harrisburg. It’s home to the National Civil War Museum, as well as a large open-air amphitheater that serves as the stage for free “Shakespeare in the Park” plays all summer.

Allison Hill is also one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the Harrisburg area, and hosts an annual Multicultural Festival each May.

Cons

Allison Hill has issues with blight, neglect, and drug-related crime, which give it a negative reputation among other Harrisburg residents. However, actions are being taken to improve the neighborhood, and Reservoir Park is certainly worth a visit.
