  • Very interesting and inspirational post. Makes me want to draw this very second!

  • great looking collection. I love browsing others sketchbooks as that is where their most creative pieces usually are.

  • Vinay

Nice collection…will get d pencil in my hand now…..

  • Great and inspiring collection, thank you. I actually featured Yissus Galiana’s sketchbooks on the ooh nice blog today too. Great minds think alike!

  • Just a quick question for people: Did this web page load too slow for you? We’re currently evaluating our infrastructure to make sure that we’re able to serve you these huge web pages without too much waiting. If this page loaded too slow for you (compared to other sites that you visit) or if you experienced any issues with the images not loading, please let us know.

  • Jennifer – Great minds do think alike! Your post is more comprehensive and displays more of Galiana’s work. By the way, your blog is great, a nice place to hang out and see some beautiful designs!

  • James Fuller Sr

    Hi Jacob,
Using FF 3.6 it did take longer than I normally expect for your site. Probably around 8-10 seconds. Cool collection of many different styles of sketching. I appreciate your posts for inspiration.

  • Fantastic artwork. Inspiring.

  • Paul Ehrenreich

When I checked it from home last night it didn’t seem like it loaded slow. However when I checked the thread just now it took a little longer for the images to come up while on my work network. I’m more then likely going to chalk it up to the ghetto network I am on at the office.

  • Thanks for sharing Paul.

A question: Did it load extraordinarily slow compared to other websites that you visit? There are a ton of images here, but do you still feel that it should load faster? Of course, it should load as fast as possible, but there’s understandably some waiting time for heavy web pages (this one’s 3.93 MB in total size).

I guess my ultimate question is this: Is it fast enough that you’re fine with it, or do you think we need more work in terms of page response times?

We have plans to upgrade our infrastructure as the site resource demands grow, but I want to make sure that you guys and gals are fine with the speed right now.

I’m also working on our servers to make sure that we can squeeze out every single performance improvement that we can (which takes a lot of time and testing).

My main desire here is that you all are experiencing the site without being annoyed that the pages take extraordinarily too long to load. If you feel this way, I encourage you to speak up and let us know, here in the comments or by contacting us directly.

  • Paul Ehrenreich

I know I am one person, but it didn’t bother me. I’ve come to expect sites that have a lot of images to load a little slower. In general I haven’t really noticed slowness in the site overall. But again that’s just me.

  • Awesome. I’ll see what others are thinking. That’s good to know though. We’re just overly sensitive because if there was a problem, we’d love to know about it so we can do something about it.

    Thanks Paul!

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE i never saw that kind of collection, so inpiring! thanks :))

  • Wohoooooooooooow!!! Thank you! It’s a kind of refresh! I loved it ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I absolutely loved these! Awesome!

  • ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the feature Design Instruct and Shane Ward!

  • Ha you got my boy Tim Duong on there! Check out more of his art here:

  • Woops just noticed you guys already had his link there. His Behance account:

  • Loved loved loved David Fullarton’s pieces!

  • Sarah

Ditto all of the comments on wanting to draw after seeing this… I think I have a sharpie on hand…

  • These are great- I especially like the work from @DavidFullarton and @YissusGaliana. Thought I might add mine to the mix, too:

  • You have nice sketches, Chris. Thank you for sharing them with us.

  • Awesome work! Going to buy my own sketchbook today! ๐Ÿ˜‰ regards from Brazil!

  • Outstanding Sketches!

Some of these guys must have sold their soul to the devil!

Irina Vinniks and Nacho-Yage are my favorites , but I checked almost all personal pages and everybody deserves a look.

  • I return to this post permanently, thanks!

  • jon

very nice except for one but really nice wish i could draw like that

  • Stephanie

I love the idea, I don’t agree with many of the choices. Too much cartoon, too much fashion, a lot of “pretty” lightweight crap, but some really great stuff too

  • This is a beautiful assortment of sketchbooks. So many styles and subject matter. Keeps me on my toes whenever I look at this. Thanks for sharing!

  • these are great, an interesting combination of imagery! I also have some interesting sketchbook work that may be good to add to the mix.

  • Amazing selection of sketchbooks although you miss one of the most outstanding illustrator of our time: Mr. James Jean.

  • Christine

this makes me miss my moleskine. I’m going to go pick one up tomorrow… thanks for the inspiration everyone!

  • Remarkable! I’m without words. Thanks, though! That was great!

  • superb collection of pencil sketches…every sketch having its own importance…really got inspired to draw one…and of course looking forward for more of them.

  • Wow, what a huge collection of seriously rad work.

The ones that really stand out for me are the works of Yissus Galiana, Irina Vinnik, Joshua Philippe & Luishock for the display for sublime skills.

A special mention goes out to razead for seriously cool work & fdor being the odd one out in thsis lot, but in a good way!

  • Wonderful talent and authentic expressions of emotion, thoughts and dreams. Thanks for posting.

  • Ed

Of course these are all beautiful, but are they really art? Do they have any real underlying meaning beneath their appealing aesthetic? I wouldnt say they did. Note the use of moleskine notebooks – byword for the pretentious (although I do use a lined one myself to record my homework) white middle class aspiring to creativity.

  • Mine’s full, need a new one, too many ideas…

  • Awesome collection showing a huge variety of styles. Thanks for sharing this.

It loaded fairly quickly for me (maybe 10 seconds) on a DSL connection, but I don’t think I would have waited for it to load on my Mom’s dial-up connection.

  • The collection is insightful. How is it possible to do this? Is aberration of alien life forms? Yes? — No?

  • urnaa

    very interesting. i like it

  • Great post and beautiful works! Thank you!

  • Makes me grab my pencil and paper and start drawing too!! Thanks for this post!

  • Great bunch of work here! I’m really glad everyone shared.

  • Are these really sketches or full blown illustrations?…Yes they are great, but to me sketches are for practice, observations, and ideas….most of these look like complete illustrations captured in a sketchbook as a medium. I hope this not sound like a bummer post, but I really what to see some sketches….some real raw capture the moment of thought kinda stuff… there are several in this post that do look like that ~ Joshua Philippe, Taylor White, and a few more….

anyway, no matter, they are all great and inspirational…

  • Great post. Some are quite fun and inspirational.

  • Razead got it spot on

  • I agree with some of the other commentersโ€”this post makes me want to get better at drawing! I’m jealous of these people’s amazing drawing skills.

  • Darrell Maxwell

The first one reminds me of my own, except i cant shade for shit….. ๐Ÿ™

  • Very interesting collection, thanks

  • ALbert Espinosa

    i feel the same way.

  • makes you want to do something creative quick!

  • Kevin Cornell should be included in the Sketchbook Secrets:

  • These are really amazing. People’s ability to create something from nothing with just a pen and a blank canvas never ceases to blow us away. Really nice selection.

  • Joseph E Clarke

You see, it is not pointless to dream great dreams. This is “Modern”. Protocol say YES… No… Tron. The Ghost in the Machine. A prophecy of Evil.
Just make sense of it! Kind of crazy. To the Batmobile! Gotham Knight protocol.
    So happy to choose…

  • Didn’t take too long to load, no.

  • Thoko

๐Ÿ˜€ can you please post MORRREEEEEEEEEE

  • Thoko

    indeed. agreed. indeed. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hillary Walker

Definitely reminds me that my perfectionist personality is unnecessary to make beautiful work- after a long blue period I feel like I can pick my markers back up and get back to it. Everything here has an underlying meaning, and it is incredibly inspiring. Thank you for the amazing collection. C:

  • Really nice to see proper old school drawing celebrated. Too much temptation to over-edit using digital tech & it’s all the more clinical for it – these all have a really nice unpolished feel to them

  • Sean

You see some very cool pieces if you take part in or attend a visist date

  • Francisca Borquaye

I really admire you guys. I also love to sketch but I’m not as good as you are. Thanks.

  • Courtney Nicole

Well I’m not easily inspired by others art work but Allen Suttons really inspired me for some reason. I mostly draw people or cartoons or sometimes my own little world that takes a while to understand. And it has just inspired me… I’ve been stuck on things to draw lately but know it all comes to me thanks c:

  • Apologies for belabouring the negative but this kind of shows how twisted some of these artistic types are lol
