3D Printed Fibonacci Zoetrope Sculptures

For those of you uninitiated on the Fibonacci Sequence, it is a sequence of numbers that starts with either 0 or 1 and subsequent numbers are always the sum of the two previous numbers. A Fibonacci sequence that starts with 0 would look like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144… The Fibonacci numbers can be observed in nature as in the arrangement of leaves on a stem, the arrangement of a pine cone, and the flowering of artichokes just to name a few.

preview_fibonacci John Edmark uses the Fibonacci sequence to construct his 3D printed sculptures. By spinning his sculptures under a strobe light that activates as his sculptures rotate every 137.5 degrees (the golden angle), his sculptures come to life in very surprising ways.
