Video Website Case Study SportsVids, Sports Video Sharing Site

Client's Project Goals

Entrepreneurs Wayde Marsico, Ron Marsico and Elaine Marsico came to web development company WebpageFX with a vision for a website.

They wanted to build a video site dedicated to sports fans: especially young athletes looking for an avenue to promote their talents online. The website would feature user-generated videos of all levels of sports competition, from elementary school to the pros.

WebpageFX and the Marsicos made their vision a reality with SportsVids.com, an interactive hub for sports-related videos on the Internet.

Design

The design for SportsVids.com had to be impactful and communicate the feel of athletic competition.

WebpageFX created a high-contrast red and black design that pops off the page at the visitor. The most popular and latest videos are located prominently on the homepage to get interested visitors to click through to the inner pages of the site.

On every video page there is a sidebar containing related videos. Related content (like on amazon.com or youtube.com) encourages further exploration into the site.

Development

A customized news feed from 3 major newswires provides website visitors with the latest sports news. Each sport has a News page dedicated to that sport's up-to-the-minute headlines.

When a user uploads a video, a web application converts their video automatically into a web-compatible format. The video is instantly viewable to the world.

After a user registers and logs in, he has the ability to:

  • edit a public profile
  • participate in sports forums

Marketing

WebpageFX designed and implemented SEO, PPC and an ongoing contest promotion campaign for SportsVids.com

The SEO and PPC campaigns provide a steady stream of traffic and new users to SportsVids.com. The PPC campaign visitors to the site immediately after it was launched, and now the majority of traffic comes through SEO.

WebpageFX made a competitive contest promotion campaign that awarded an XBOX 360 to the member who referred the most new users to the site.
