Why isn’t my website showing up on Google? It’s a question many of us have asked at one point or another.
There could be various problems affecting your website’s ability to rank. That’s why we’re breaking down the top five issues preventing your website from showing up on Google on this page.
Plus, one of WebFX’s own resident search engine optimization (SEO) experts, Cheyenne, gives her insights into problems affecting your rankings and how our experts fix them!
Let’s get started!
A quick note before we dive in
If you recently requested a page to be indexed or just created a page, it can take some time for Google to index it and show it in relevant search results. Allow at least a week before assuming there is an issue with your site ranking.
Expert insights from
“Currently, the biggest issues that we run into that cause a website to not rank highly on the SERPs are a lack of focus on mobile experience, limited links pointing to a website (weak Domain Authority), or a lack of beneficial content strategy.”
5 reasons why your site isn’t showing up on Google (+How our SEO experts fix them)
Various issues could cause you to ask, “Why can’t I find my website on Google?”.
Here are five top reasons why your website isn’t showing up on Google and how our SEO experts fix it!
- Your site isn’t optimized for mobile users
- You’re lacking high-quality backlinks
- You don’t have a beneficial content strategy
- Google hasn’t indexed your site
- You’re not matching the search intent
1. Your site isn’t optimized for mobile users
Google wants to provide its users with the best possible experience, no matter what device they use. And that means showing users websites that provide a great experience on mobile devices as well as desktops.
To do so, Google implemented mobile-first indexing to prioritize indexing mobile-friendly sites.
If your website isn’t optimized for mobile users, you can expect your site to drop in rankings, with mobile-friendly sites ranking at the top of the results.
Expert insights from
“With the mobile-first algorithm, it is crucial for a website to be set up for a seamless user experience on mobile, and ignoring this experience can make it impossible to gain momentum in the search results.”
How we fix it
So, how does the team at WebFX tackle this problem? Our designers and developers focus on implementing responsive design on our clients’ websites.
Responsive design enables your site to look and function correctly on any and all devices your visitors use. As a result, Google will index your site as mobile-friendly, helping you to earn those higher spots in the search results.

2. You’re lacking high-quality backlinks
Lacking high-quality backlinks can also be the cause behind your question, “Why doesn’t my website show up on Google?”.
Links to your website from other reputable websites send signals to Google that your site is trustworthy and provides helpful, valuable content.
The more high-quality backlinks you have, the more Google sees your website as a trustworthy source, and the higher your site will rank in relevant search results.
So, if you lack high-quality backlinks, this could be why your site isn’t showing up on Google.
Expert insights from
“Link building is the icing on the cake for those other initiatives to build up your trustworthiness and competitiveness.”

At WebFX, we have a dedicated earned media team that spends their days working to get reputable backlinks for our clients from authoritative sites.

3. You don’t have a beneficial content strategy
If you’re searching “my website doesn’t show up on Google,” it could be because you don’t have a beneficial content strategy.
Have you ever heard the phrase “content is king”? That’s because when it comes to Google and rankings, your content is everything.
Without content that targets the keywords your audience searches for online, matches search intent, and provides helpful information, you can kiss high rankings goodbye.
Expert insights from
“It is also important to be strategic regarding your content strategy – make sure to remove old, outdated information and also focus on building new content that is focused on trending relevant topics.”

4. Google hasn’t indexed your site
Another reason why your website could be struggling to rank on Google could be because Google simply hasn’t indexed your site. In order for your website to show up in search results, Google needs to add it to its index. Google uses its index to show websites in relevant search results.
If your page or site is missing from Google’s index, it won’t rank because Google doesn’t know it exists.
How we fix it
When you invest in SEO services from WebFX, our team will take care of regularly submitting your sitemap to Google. Your sitemap is basically like the library of your site, and it contains all of your pages. It also details which pages are important and where they are located.
By submitting your sitemap, you can help Google identify pages that haven’t been indexed.
Our team will also check your pages to ensure there are no “no index” meta tags anywhere they shouldn’t be. As the name suggests, “no index” tags tell Google not to index a page. So, if that tag exists on a page you want to rank, the tag will need to be removed before the page will appear in the search results.

5. You’re not matching the search intent
In order for your page to rank for a keyword, it needs to match the search intent. When a user searches for a keyword or phrase, they are looking for something specific. For example, if a user searches for “best places to visit in Venice,” they’re likely looking for a list of landmarks and top locations to see in Venice.
Google wants to show users websites that provide them with the information they want. So, if your page doesn’t match the search intent, you won’t see your website in a top spot in the search results.
How we fix it
At WebFX, our team conducts thorough keyword research for your SEO strategy. Not only will we research the best keywords for you to target, but we’ll also research the search intent behind those keywords and strategize the best way to match it.
Our in-house content strategists and copywriters will refresh your existing content to ensure it matches search intent and follows SEO best practices, all while creating new content to help your website rank for more keywords and earn more visibility in the search results.
