Well, here are some of the best and latest 2012 stats about the Internet and marketing that can come in handy for marketers. Not to mention, these are great tidbits of information to share with clients while discussing their internet marketing campaign. 1. 17% of all adult cell phone users are “cell-mostly internet users”.
Online cell phone browsing is at an all-time high. As mobile devices improve (and websites along with that), users accessing the internet majorly through cell phone and other mobile devices will be more commonplace. Already, 31% of all cell phone users say they access the internet mostly through their phone.
2. Half of all adult cell phone owners use their mobile devices while watching television.
Most people are using their phones to keep themselves occupied during commercials, but they are also doing everything from fact checking things they hear on TV to text messaging about what they are watching to browsing the web.
3. In a typical week, we can expect 62% of smartphone Internet users have gone online from their phone every day.
We all know that cell phone use is continuing to rise at great levels and that these numbers grow in big ways every year. Although it isn’t tomorrow, we can definitely expect to see smart phones and other mobile devices dominating users’ internet use in the future.
4. Mobile coupons are redeemed 10 times more often than traditional coupons.
Need any more reason to switch from your current coupon strategy to mobile coupons?
5. Company blogs and LinkedIn lead social as the best customer acquisition channels (followed by Facebook then Twitter).
Overall this stat holds true in the studies. Company blogs are showing across all industries to be the best channel for acquiring new customers (see next stat), but the others depend on the industry. As a general rule, Facebook is more effective for B2C and LinkedIn is more effective for B2B.
6. There is a direct correlation between blog post frequency and customer acquisition on company blogs.
If my clients aren’t already, I am always encouraging them to blog more often. It is important to keep fresh, shareable and engaging content on your website. It helps to keep bringing visitors back, provides opportunity for organic link-backs to the site and allows you to show up for new, relevant organic search queries, etc. With this additional fact, there is yet another reason to promote company blogging.
7. The average cost per lead on Blogs, Social and SEO combined are less than the average cost of any one common outbound marketing channel (ie. direct mail, telemarketing, trade shows).

Of the billions of unique search queries that are completed each day, this is not hard to believe. Search is full of opportunities and given the number of search queries within one industry alone, there are endless opportunities for marketers to grab that traffic.
12. 20 countries in the world makeup 75% of the world’s total internet users.
These Internet users make up less than 25% of the world’s total population.
